Going where less than 0.5% know the name of Jesus

If you told me a few years ago that God would call me to Japan after graduating, I wouldn't have believed you. Instead, I thought this year would be spent trying to build my career and exploring my early 20s doing something completely different.

The Lord met me during college and radically transformed me after showing me the true weight of Christ's sacrifice, though I do not deserve it. God has been continuing to shape what it means for me to live life not for myself, but for Him and His namesake.

As I commit this next year to seeking and serving the Lord in Japan, my prayer is that this would not JUST be a one-year commitment, but the start of a lifetime spent devoted to Christ until I see Him face to face.

My Story

Three Summers, One Calling

Each year the Lord continues to break my heart for those who do not yet know Him. I realize that the Lord is not so concerned with where I’ll be or what I’ll be doing, as He is with my obedience and sanctification.

2023

Southeast Asia

God showed me that He is greater than who I thought He was.

During my sophomore year of college, the Lord convicted me to surrender my summer plans to go overseas for His namesake. On this trip, God placed a deep burden in me to pursue what is related to His kingdom: things that are eternal, ands will NOT fade away.

2024

Japan

God showed me the joy of sharing the gospel across cultures.

This is where my heart broke open. Sharing the gospel, serving students, sitting in long conversations over coffee — I saw God soften hearts and I felt more alive in His work than I ever had. Japan didn't leave me after I flew home.

2025

Asia Minor · The Turning Point

God showed me His call reaches every nation — and invited me into it.

Sitting in a land where the early church once carried the gospel, I was convicted in a fresh way. I became increasingly certain that God's heart is for every nation to hear of Him.

My Response

As I reflected on these three summers, I realized God wasn't simply inviting me on another trip — He was inviting me to surrender my plans to His mission.

“Here I am. Send me.”

Today

And so this next chapter begins — a full year in Tokyo, serving university students and sharing the hope I've found in Christ. Japan isn't where the story starts. It's simply where God is leading me next.

Less Than A Week Away!

Why Japan?

A nation that has yet to hear

Japan is one of the most spiritually unreached nations on earth. Most Japanese people haven't rejected the gospel — they simply have never encountered it.

So many haven't heard the name of Jesus even once.

But there is so much hope

A friend serving in Japan told me, “Jess, you're coming at a really ripe time. Our students have caught the vision of sharing the gospel with their friends — they just don't know how yet. They're longing to be discipled.”

The harvest is real. The laborers are few. I praise God for giving me a heart for the nations — and that He goes before me, and is with me always, to the very end of the age.

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Matthew 9:37–38
